Our Goals:

3Rock’s History

3Rock Youth was created in September 2004 to serve the Dublin and Glendalough Diocese. 3Rock Youth exists to establish the links between the youth, churches and schools in the diocese. Greg Fromholz was appointed, the first director of 3Rock Youth, by Archbishop Neill under a working group chaired by former Archdeacon Swann and steered by Andrew McNeile; originally based in St. Catherine’s CORE, Thomas Street.

An internship program was implemented in the second year of 3Rock Youth with Susan Connolly, Sarah-Jane Taylor and Eric Denner. The team ran school retreats, partnered in events such as Xposure, Emerge and created the Essential, 3Rock Youth’s carol service with a difference.

By the middle of 2005, 3Rock Youth had begun to establish itself within the diocese and Susan Connolly and Sarah- Jane Taylor completed their internship and became full members of the team. Anna Moran become 3Rock Youth’s first sub-contracted administrator bringing another level of professionalism and organisation.

Later that year 3Rock Youth began filming the Crucial DVD series; a series of interactive DVDs for youth discipleship and confirmation; Ireland’s first contexualised, indigenious and interactive DVD series for youth. Joined by interns, the now new looking team continued their good work in schools and numbers at their signature events increased. The year culminated with the team undertaking their first missions trip to Brazil where they linked up with a local youth organisation, running a big event for local young people. The all-Ireland weekend Anois kicked off this year with 3Rock Youth taking on the production and overseeing the main worship sessions; Greg was the guest speaker at this event in 2006 as well as Summer Madness.

2006 began with 3Rock moving into their current offices in St. Anns church on Dawson Street. Another new group of interns came through the doors. Together for the first time the team ran Essential in 2 separate locations. December 2006 saw the Diocesan camps handed over to 3Rock Youth which Susan Connolly ran in Gurteen Agricultural college from the summer of 2007. Prior to the camps the team went to Lesotho, Africa. There they built a playground for a local orphanage. This year saw the departure of Anna Moran from the team. This year also marked the first year 3Rock Youth worked with the all Diocesan transition year day out called an Advance Day.

2007 saw Susie Keane join the team and the departure of Sarah- Jane Taylor. The team continued to film and produce the Crucial project. Including Frequency and Tide. Susie became the schools co-ordinator organizing and running the school retreats which by now were a weekly event as well as co-ordinating the Internship & overseeing the administration for 3Rock Youth.

2008 saw the beginning of Urban Soul, an active citizenship which saw teenagers take to the streets of Dublin and facilitate community initiatives, Urban Soul ran during the first week in July, preceding the D and G camps, making the month one of 3Rock youth’s busiest.

2009 welcomed the largest group of Interns join Greg, Susie and Susan- joined by second year intern and team member Stephen Byford; the team built on the previous years success with increased numbers at Urban Soul and the D and G camps. The school retreats increased in popularity and the many events ran throughout the calendar year received great acclaim, culminating in a sold out Essential in Christchurch cathedral, in December. The Enniskerry Youth Festival & the presence at the National Ploughing Championship were also launched this year.

2010 is all about 3Rock Youth maintaining the good work that began 6 years previous, working in local churches, training leaders, Essential, Urban Soul, the D and G Camps, the school retreats and the other many activities and events planned with 3Rock Youth’s hope to continue to play a crucial role in the Church of Irelands future and beyond.
