Recipes : Susans Apple Tart
225g/8oz Strong Flour
125g/4oz Margarine
Pinch of Salt
Cold Water
4 Large Cooking Apples (peeled and thinly sliced)
Sugar to sweeten apples
Good pinch of cinnamon
Bake in preheated oven at 200 degrees C, 400 degrees F, Gas 6 for 30-35 minutes approx.
Method: Sieve flour and salt into a bowl. Coarsely rub in the margarine. Add sufficient water to make dough. Lightly knead. Roll out half of pastry to shape of oven proof plate. Arrange apples on pastry. Sprinkle with sugar to sweeten. Roll remaining pastry to cover apples. Dampen edge of base pastry with cold water to seal. Press top pastry over apples to make the tart. Seal edges. Put cut on top of pastry to allow steam escape. Bake in preheated oven at 200 degrees C, 400 degrees F, Gas 6 for 30-35 minutes approx. Brush pastry lightly with milk and sprinkle some sugar on top before baking.
