D & G Summer Camps

The new look “D & G Summer Camps” with its 76 campers & 18 leaders led by Susan Connolly was held over the 2 weeks commencing July 5-19. Held again in the beautiful surroundings of Gurteen Agricultural College in Tipperary and featuring new additions to the week such as high ropes course and archery at University of Limerick Activity Centre, Extreme Bouncy Castles, a Dodge-ball competition, a day trip to Belfast Community Circus School for the seniors and Bunratty Castle & Folk Park for the juniors (though wet, the sing a longs and the lunches in the barn were a highlight). The always highly anticipated activates such as the talent show, dangerous Olympics, disco, photo safari and fittest man and women competition were all part of the weeks too.

Greg was the “messenger” at both camps using creative and interactive styles in worship; everything from a giant earth ball, to helium balloons, to video loops to games and personal and bible stories. With the juniors the emphasis was focused on the question of who are you…a Value-Giver or Value-Taker? And the ultimate call to be a Value Giver to those around us following the example of Jesus. The seniors worship times were spent looking at how not to life a life of faith as a “hand-me-down” and how to go about owning our faith and living it with volume.
The real encouragement and testimony lay in the texts and emails that came in from campers over the next weeks, which suggested they had enjoyed it and were keen to be back for more.
I’d like to thank the amazing leaders who really made my job so much easier thank you for all your hard work throughout these 2 weeks. We were delighted that the Rev’d Anne Taylor joined us for a few days in the first week even with her busy run up to an outreach to South Africa.
