Interviewing Interns

Interviewing Interns

Today we want to continue the conversation on Internship and what a year out looks like from the inside. Stephen “Stan” McConnell our resident blogger and dweller of cyburbia was recently interviewed while driving on Dublin’s northside:

Why did you decide to do the 3Rock Youth Internship?

Stan: I decided to do the internship because I thought it would give me the opportunity to get a wider view of youthwork. Also I wanted to be put into more areas where I would grow and gain experience!

Is there any part of the internship where you feel you were challenged?

Stan: We recently did a school retreat and we did discussion groups. During this time the students talked about the struggles they have growing up in their specific backgrounds. What a reality is for them everyday, I found it really hard to take in.

Why was it so challenging?

Stan: It was challenging because it took me out of what I am so used to in my youth work. Middle class, Christian family teenagers.

What are you looking forward to in the Internship?

Stan: I’m really looking forward to Urban Soul, it will be giving opportunities for teenagers to serve and grow. The Church in the larger sense, serving the needs of Dublin. I’m also looking forward to my placement and being in an in-depth environment.

For anybody considering the 3Rock internshiip, what would you say to them?

Stan: DO IT! Get your hands dirty wherever possible at every opportunity because you have nothing to lose but a whole lot to gain.
