WAR, CHILDREN and REFUGEES
In the past decade, more than 2 million children have been killed and more than 10 million injured or disabled in armed conflicts.
In the 1990’s, more than 12 million children have been orphaned or separated from their families because of war.
Of the 12 million refugees in the world, half of them are children. Each day, 5000 more children become refugees.
Refugees: approximately 50 million people are displaced, 80of them women and children.
MONEY
In 1992 the total economic output of the whole world was five times what it was in 1950, yet poverty is worse than what it was 45 years ago. The world’s 358 billionaires have more assets than the combined incomes of countries representing nearly half – 45 per cent – of the planet’s population. Today’s poorest fifth of the world share a mere 1.4 percent of the worlds income.
